Mumbai, Jun 17 (IBNS): Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has joined the starcast of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker's upcoming project Panipat.

Zeenat Aman, who had introduced a modern look of the actresses onscreen, will essay the role of Sakina Begum.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Zeenat Aman joins the cast of Ashutosh Gowariker's #Panipat... Will essay the role of Sakina Begum... Stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon."

Zeenat Aman was last seen in 2012 Bollywood film Strings of Passion.

Panipat stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.

Making a historical film, Gowariker is likely to tell the story of the third battle of Panipat, which was fought in 1761.

The battle was fought in Panipat (now in Haryana), which was 97 km north of Delhi. In the battle, the Afghans overpowered the Maratha force.

Gowariker had last directed Mohenjo Daro in 2016. Mohenjo Daro starred Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hedge in the main roles. Some of the notable works in Gowariker's career so far include Laagan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar.

Panipat is slated to hit the big screens on Dec 6, 2019.
