Mumbai: Actor Varun Dhawan starrer upcoming Hindi film Coolie No. 1 earned praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for going completely free of plastic.

Varun took to Twitter to announce that no plastic bottles will be used on the sets of Coolie No. 1 which will be directed by his father David Dhawan. Instead, steel bottles will fulfill the needs of the cast and crew of the film.

Tagging the Prime Minister's Office, Varun posted a picture where the cast and crew are seen posing with steel bottles.

Varun said in the tweet, "Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great intiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes. The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles."

Praising the initiative, Modi said on micro-blogging site Twitter, "Superb gesture by the team of #CoolieNo1! Happy to see the film world contributing towards freeing India from single use plastic."

Giving his address at the COP 14 UN Convention in Greater Noida on Monday, Modi urged the world to bid adieu to the single use of plastic.

"My Government has announced that India will put an end to single use of plastic in the coming years. I believe the time has come for even the world to say good-bye to single use plastic," the Prime Minister had said.
