New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI): Amid reports that he is being fielded by the BJP from the Amritsar seat in the coming Lok Sabha elections, actor Akshay Kumar on Monday said he would not be contesting the elections.

At an event to promote his upcoming film Kesari, the actor confirmed that he would not be contesting Lok Sabha elections.

"No, I will not be contesting any elections," Akshay Kumar said in reply to a question.

There have been speculations that Akshay could be fielded by the BJP from Amritsar.

Akshay Kumar was among the celebrities to whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently tweeted and asked them to help increase voter participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Akshay Kumar has also been a part of films with social messages such as 'Toilet-Ek Prem Katha', which promoted the Swacch Bharat campaign, a pet project of PM Modi.

He has also been a part of patriotic films like Baby, Airlift and Gold.
