Amitabh Bachchan selected for Dadasaheb Phalke award

New Delhi, Sept 24 (IBNS): Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has been selected unanimously for the Dadasaheb Phalke award, Union minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Tuesday.

"The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him.@narendramodi @SrBachchan," Javadekar tweeted.

On receiving the news of his father's honour, Abhishek Bachchan tweeted: "Overjoyed and so, so proud! #ProudSon 🙏"

Amitabh Bachchan first tasted success in the early 1970s for films such as Zanjeer, Deewaar and Sholay, and was dubbed India's "angry young man" for his on-screen roles in Bollywood.

He was last seen in the film 'Badla.'

Referred to as the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Star of the Millennium, or Big B, he has since appeared in over 190 Indian films in a career spanning almost five decades.

Bachchan is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema as well as world cinema.

Beyond the Indian subcontinent, he also has a large overseas following in markets including Africa (such as South Africa), the Middle East (especially Egypt), United Kingdom, Russia and parts of the United States.

Bachchan has won numerous accolades in his career, including four National Film Awards as Best Actor and many awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies.

He has won fifteen Filmfare Awards and is the most nominated performer in any major acting category at Filmfare, with 41 nominations overall.

In addition to acting, Bachchan has worked as a playback singer, film producer and television presenter.

Reacting to the announcement, filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted: "The most inspiring legend of Indian Cinema!!!! He is a bonafide rock star!!! I am honoured and proud to be in the Era of AMITABH BACHCHAN! The prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward  to @SrBachchan."

Actor Anil Kapoor posted: "There is no mention of Indian cinema without this Legend! He has redefined cinema with every role & deserves every accolade for his innumerable contributions! Congratulations @SrBachchan!  #DadaSahebPhalkeAward."
