Electronics component scheme draws ₹1.15 lakh cr proposals; surpasses targets for jobs, output and investment
New Delhi: The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) has attracted investment proposals worth ₹1.15 lakh crore, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Thursday, far surpassing the programme’s original benchmarks for investment, production, and employment.

The scheme, launched with an initial investment target of ₹59,000 crore, has now drawn proposals projecting production valued at over ₹10 lakh crore.
According to Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan, the projects are expected to create more than 1.41 lakh jobs, significantly higher than the original goal of 91,600 positions.
The government said applications are being evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis, giving priority to early entrants.
For the first time, proposals have been submitted in areas such as SMD passives, laminates, flexible PCBs, anodes, and capital equipment.
Vaishnaw stressed that nearly all industry players are now building design teams and capabilities, with around 60% of applications coming from MSMEs.
He underlined that these components will help meet domestic demand while also serving global markets.
Calling on states to capitalise on the momentum, the minister said the government’s next focus would be on indigenising raw materials critical for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, including ultra-pure materials.
