New Delhi/IBNS: The mother of Atul Subhash, the Bengaluru techie who committed suicide accusing his estranged wife of harassment and extortion on Dec 9, has approached the Supreme Court seeking the custody of her grandson, media reports said.

The Bengaluru Police arrested Atul's estranged wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha, and brother Anurag in connection with an abetment to suicide case on Dec 15.

The 34-year-old techie left behind an 81-minute video and a 24-page suicide note.

His mother, Anju Modi, has filed a habeas corpus petition seeking the custody of her 4-year-old grandson whose whereabouts are unknown.

The petition claims that neither Nikita nor her family members, who are currently in custody, have disclosed the child's whereabouts.

Nikita reportedly told the police that the boy was enrolled in a Faridabad boarding school and is in the custody of her uncle, Sushil Singhania.

However, Sushil has denied any knowledge of the child's location, said reports.

A bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice N Kotiswar Singh has issued notices to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Karnataka to clarify the situation. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 7.

In the suicide video, Atul alleged that he and his family were slapped with charges of murder, dowry harassment and unnatural sex.

However, Nikita later withdrew the case.

Atul had refuted the dowry charges by Nikita and also claimed there was no link between the dowry demand and the death of Nikita's father.

In the 24-page suicide note, Atul alleged his wife was getting Rs. 40,000 (USD  471) per month for maintenance despite having a job at Accenture and even asked for Rs. 2-4 lakh (USD  2,358-  4,716) more.

His family also expressed concerns about the child's safety.
