Aligarh/IBNS: A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the university campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh city on Wednesday night, media reports said.

The victim, identified as Rao Danish Ali, was out for an evening walk when he was shot near the Maulana Azad Library area at around 9 pm. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

“We were informed that a man had been shot near the library and taken to the medical college. He was identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School. He was shot in the head and later died at the medical college,” AMU Proctor Mohd. Wasim Ali told CNN-News18.

According to reports, Ali was walking with two colleagues when they reached a canteen near the library.

At that point, two bike-borne assailants arrived at the spot, shot him and fled.

Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the attackers.
