Maharashtra: Nagpur reports first case of Omicron

Nagpur/UNI: Nagpur city reported the first case of Omicron on Sunday, after a patient with a history of foreign travel tested positive for Omicron variant of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to information, the man had travelled here from a city in West Africa.

Following the detection his samples were sent for genome sequencing. His report came out positive for Omicron variant.

Earlier on Sunday, Omicron cases were detected – one each in Chandigarh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. With this, India’s tally of the new variant rose to 37.

Maharashtra, as of now, has the highest number of Omicron cases in the country.
