Two earthquakes, including a powerful magnitude 7 tremor, struck Tibet on Thursday evening, followed by another magnitude 5.2 earthquake in China, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The first earthquake, measuring magnitude 7, occurred at 8.03 pm IST at a depth of 173 km.

Its epicentre was located around 489 km north-north-west of Pandin in Arunachal Pradesh, the NCS said.

A second earthquake of magnitude 5 struck the region at around 8.42 pm IST, at a depth of 15 km.

The tremor was located approximately 323 km north-north-west of Basar in Arunachal Pradesh, according to NCS data.

Meanwhile, a separate magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck China at 8.29 pm IST, at a depth of 15 km. Its epicentre was located around 505 km north-north-west of Pangin in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tremors follow deadly Nepal-Tibet floods

The earthquakes come weeks after devastating flash floods and landslides struck the Nepal-Tibet border region in August, killing more than 1,400 people, according to the figures cited in reports.

The floods originated near the Nepal-Tibet border and swept away homes and buildings across northern and central Nepal, causing widespread destruction.

No immediate reports of damage

The NCS released the earthquake details, including their magnitudes, depths and locations relative to Arunachal Pradesh.

Further information on casualties or damage from Thursday’s tremors was not immediately available.

The impact of the earthquakes in the affected areas remains unclear.
