Time for Make in India to Move in India: Sirshendu Chaudhuri

The CEO of Virtual Global Education Limited (VGEL) Sirshendu Chaudhuri, breaks down the unemployment problem in India. In his latest article, Chaudhuri discusses MSME's and the need for Make in India to Move In India.

Generally, a small business is one that is independently owned and operated and not dominant in its field of operation. Criteria such as sales volume and the number of employees in the firm are also used in assessing the size of businesses. Small business owners are not dominant in their field, and usually do not engage in many new or innovative practices. They may never grow large, and the owner may prefer a more stable and less aggressive approach to running the business. Since small firms include those purchased as ongoing business as well as franchises, small business owners can be viewed as managers of small business.

As we know, that economic development of a nation is firmly associated with the growth of the industrial sector. Industrial sector is poised of Large, Medium and Micro enterprises. Although, large industries assist the overall economic growth of a nation, the contribution of Micro or Small and Medium enterprises (MSME’s) is quite compelling in industrial production, employment generation, import and exports.

The research team hypothesizes that innovation in marketing practices plays a large role in explaining why some micro-entrepreneurs manage to achieve scale while other micro firms cannot escape the subsistence trap. Further, they argue that entrepreneurs’ ability to innovate is a function of both their human capital and the initial product variety that they offer.

Finally, they claim that human capital -- in the context of subsistence level micro-entrepreneurs, who typically have poor numerical skills and high levels of illiteracy— can be improved through the imitation of simple rules of thumb from more successful peers or “positive deviants".

But to maximize the growth of the economy, every working force in the country must be skilled and employed.

Time for Make in India to Move in India!

The need of qualified and skilled labour for satisfying the technology updates creates the need to training raw resources with required skills.

Skills training through a preferred partner with mobile companies and telecom giants or government vendors is making not only resources available to the companies, but, it is also opening doors to occupation and skills development to the unemployed rural sectors. Skill development and training is an ongoing need as and when technological updates keep happening. The role of a skill development training agency is superiorly played by making the manpower skilled, resourceful and tech friendly.

A very important factor for the success of skill building programs at the grass roots, has been the practice of incorporating life skills training, within all skill training programs. This ensures that trainees who are completing any kind of skill building are also equipped with life skills. Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country. Countries with higher and better levels of skills adjust more effectively to the challenges and opportunities of world of work

Over 1 million Indian youth are infiltrating the labor market every month and here comes the need of   skill development. Skill development plays a major role in the development of the economy of a country. Creating awareness among the college students and teachers about the entrepreneurship should be the focus area. The educated and the skilled had an eminence with enough satisfactory job opportunities.     

If India is to harness its demographic dividend and the 'Make in India' campaign is to succeed it is important that the growing working force is equipped with the necessary skills.
