Tata Power inaugurates its fourth Tata Power Skill Development Institute in Mundra

| | Mar 30, 2016, at 12:37 am
Mumbai/ Kolkata, Mar 29 (IBNS): Tata Power along with the Tata Power Community Development Trust inaugurated its fourth Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), a centre for power plant skills at Mundra to provide increased access to its courses to the members of disadvantaged sections of the society.
The Institute was inaugurated by Anil Sardana, CEO & MD, Tata Power and Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata Power.

Ramesh Subramanyam, CFO, Tata Power and KK Sharma, ED & CEO, CGPL took part along with other senior leaders of CGPL and TPSDI.

A CSR initiative, the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) was established in 2015 by Tata Power with a dual motive i.e. to empower youth and others with employable skills, especially in the Power and allied sectors as well as to address the skill gap challenge faced by the Industry.

"This initiative has benefited more than 1500 people till date. The TPSDI - Mundra is spread over a sprawling 75,000 sq.ft campus in the premises of Tata Power's wholly owned subsidiary - Coastal Gujarat Power Limited, in Tunda village, near the port city of Mundra in Gujarat. The institute provides the extensive space and infrastructure required to conduct courses across the whole range of electrical, mechanical and other skills. The institute has also undertaken the objective of building employability skills in youth living around the area and offers various other employability skills to meet local needs," a company statement claimed.

Speaking on the event,  Anil Sardana, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “The Indian Economy is one of the fastest growing economies of the world, which results in increased demand for skilled workforce in various sectors. India has one of the highest number of people in the world who fall in the working age group. However, we are at a disadvantage as a very large chunk this human resource lacks employable skills due to lack of education, training facilities, and quality vocational training. This places a significant entry barrier to the job market and impedes career growth."

"The Tata Power Skill Development Institute has been commissioned to equip India’s workforce with the required employable skills and knowledge so that it can contribute to the growth of the country’s economy and thereby improve their economic condition. We have set up four such institutions so far in Mumbai, Jharkhand and Gujarat as we believe skills and knowledge are the drivers of economic and social growth of any country. We will continue to undertake similar programmes in the future as well as our commitment to nation building,” Sardana said.
