Tata Docomo to enable business transformation in India with Next-Gen digital technologies
With more than 200 participants, consisting of CEOs, industry experts, entrepreneurs and CIOs, Tata Docomo led the discussion around the technologies powering digital disruption, such as - Internet of Things, Location Based Services, M2M solutions, Mobile Device Management and many more.
Industry stalwarts Hemant Kanoria, Chairman & Managing Director, SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd; Debashis Sen, Principal Secretary, Urban Dev. Dept, Govt. of West Bengal & Chairman, WBHIDCO Ltd; Swaraj Krishnan, MD & CEO, Insurance Joint Venture, Magma HDI General Insurance Company Ltd and Keshav Bhajanka, Executive Director, Century Plyboards (I) Ltd., and N Srinath, MD – Tata Teleservices Ltd. came together to highlight the increasing momentum of business transformations through digital technology.
Speaking at the event, Hemant Kanoria, Chairman & Managing Director, SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd said, “Digitization has been present in India since several years with examples such as STD making way for mobile phones. We witnessed the power of digitization in the infrastructure and rural sector first-hand when the Government of India introduced the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) in 2006 as part of which we were selected to set up Common Service Centres (CSC) in about 28,000 villages in Eastern India. This provided the entire population of the villages not only easy access to critical services in the domain of micro-insurance, education, utility and G2C services, but also several employment opportunities. Thus, digital disruption can enable transformation of not just enterprises but our country itself.”
Addressing the panel at the event, Debashis Sen, Principal Secretary, Urban Dev. Dept, Govt. of West Bengal & Chairman, WBHIDCO Ltd. said, “As part of the Smart Cities initiative, the Government of West Bengal is planning for what we call ‘Intelligent Cities’. We are thinking ahead of the private sector and are looking at predictive analysis – trying to predict the occurrence of a complaint even before it happens. Even before the street near Salt Lake City gets waterlogged, can you arrange the drainage accordingly? Even before there is a traffic jam, can you find an alternate route? Sensors can be deployed on manhole covers that would detect the direction and force of the water flow and send an alert in case there is a chance of water-logging, so that the traffic can be diverted immediately. Another area of application is taking inputs from smart meters being deployed by distribution companies and analyze the usage patterns to draw effective insights regarding the citizens from them. The very idea behind the Smart Cities initiative is disruptive and has really changed the way people think about Urban Development in general.”
Talking about digital disruption, Srinath, Managing Director, Tata Teleservices Ltd. said “Digital Disruption is the key to business transformation. New age technologies are changing things faster than ever before and one of the key challenges facing business owners is how to stay relevant. We are witnessing technologies fuelling not just the reinvention of operating models, but in some cases the very business model. The adoption of technologies such as big data, mobile broadband, social media, Internet-of-Things and cloud computing has led to a massive impact on the enterprise business from employees to supply chain, operations, management and customers. Today Enterprises strive towards responsiveness, nimble-footedness, superior and speedier customer service which underpin the new age corporate image.”
