SAIL, MIDHANI sign MoU for R&D in iron and steel industry
New Delhi, June 4 (IBNS): An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Research and Development Centre for Iron & Steel (RDCIS), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Ranchi and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), Hyderabad in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The purpose of this MoU is to jointly undertake research and development work in the areas of interest and relevance to Iron & Steel industry. RDCIS is the corporate R&D unit of SAIL at Ranchi.
SAIL’s RDCIS and MIDHANI shall work together and make use of their knowledge and experience for development of process technology for producing steel products of national importance. To begin with, development of process technology for production of CRGO Steel has been identified. Considering the strength of respective parties, MIDHANI and SAIL will take up other collaborative projects and assignments of mutual interest during the pendency of this MoU.
Recently RDCIS had collaborations with reputed academic institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IISc Bangalore, Jadavpur University and research organisations like CSIR-NML/Jamshedpur, CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)/Pune, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)/Pune, CRRI/New Delhi etc. in various technical disciplines of iron & steel technologies.
At international level RDCIS is having collaboration with reputed international organizations and institutes like CSM/Italy, Swerea MEFOS, Sweden and Deakin University/ Australia to undertake R&D work in the new & critical areas of steel technologies.
The MoU was signed by Director (Technical), SAIL S.S. Mohanty and Chairman & MD, MIDHANI M. Narayana Rao, in presence of Chairman, SAIL C.S. Verma.
Speaking on this occasion, Chairman, SAIL, Verma expressed his happiness on the MoU and said that, "through these collaborative efforts in R&D, better technologies can be developed which would be focused towards cost effective indigenous manufacturing of high grade steel products critical for the growing infrastructure and manufacturing sector of the country and would facilitate fulfillment of the targets set under the Make in India campaign.”
