Salboni, June 12 (IBNS): JSW Cement,a part of the US$ 12 billion JSW Group, recently inaugurated a railway siding to cater to incoming and outgoing cargo of 2.4MTA cement manufacturing unit at Salboni in West Bengal. The 6.5 Kms railway siding will seamlessly connect the manufacturing unit to the main rail line between Godapiasal and Salboni.

The rail yard inside the plant has five lines running parallel and connected to each other. Out of the five lines two are dedicated for unloading and connected with wagon tippler for mechanized unloading within 5 hours, another two lines are kept for loading of cement onto the wagon in a mechanized manner within seven hours and the fifth line is for engine reversal. This siding is designed to handle incoming and outgoing cargo simultaneously and plan is to handle two rakes a day for incoming raw material and one rake per day for outward dispatch.

Commenting on the inauguration of the railway siding, Mr Parth Jindal, Managing Director – JSW Cement said, “Railway siding at Salboni is built with state of art technology with provision of Tipplers for unloading of raw materials and mechanical loading of cement bags for the finished product. In cement business, logistics accounts for 30-35% of the cement cost and to be cost effective we are continuously working on various levers to reduce this cost. This railway siding is a step in this direction. Access to markets in east would be economically feasible and similarly, for inbound raw material, the railway siding will improve the availability of raw material at the plant and will also help to drastically reduce our landed cost. Tangible benefits aside, the larger impact is being able to reduce the traffic on road which in turn helps in keeping the environment clean.

In January 2018, JSW Cement inaugurated its 2.4 MTPA manufacturing unit at Salboni in West Bengal dedicating it to the economic development of West Bengal. The state-of-the-art manufacturing unit produces eco-friendly PSC cement for Eastern markets including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, northern parts of Orissa etc. JSW Cement’s Salboni unit underscores JSW Group’s commitment to West Bengal’s economic growth and the State’s emergence as India’s leading manufacturing and business hub.

JSW Cement also manufactures Concreel HD cement at its Salboni unit. Concreel HD is a unique cement variant innovated by JSW Cement. It is specially designed for concrete-based construction requirements. Concreel HD provides exceptional strength and sets quickly, thereby making it ideal for strength-bearing applications such as beams, columns, slabs and foundations.
