Indian govt raises excise on petrol, diesel

New Delhi, Jan 2 (IBNS): The Indian government on Saturday increased excise duty on on petrol and diesel.

While petrol was hiked by 37 paise per litre, the duty on diesel was increased by Rs 2 per litre.

Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia tweeted: "The increase in excise duty on petrol by 37 paisa and in diesel by 2 rupees per litre will not result into any increase in the current price."

"This additional resource mobilisation is likely to yield Rs 4300 Crores in the remaining part of the year," he said.
