GST Bill in Rajya Sabha today

| | Aug 03, 2016, at 03:22 pm
New Delhi, Aug 3 (IBNS): In a significant move, the Centre is all set to table the 122nd Constitution Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday which will pave the way for the rolling out of the goods and services tax (GST) in the nation.

The bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha.

However, it is stuck in the Rajya Sabha following opposition from the Congress.

The Cabinet had earlier cleared changes in the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill, dropping 1 percent manufacturing tax and providing guarantee to compensate states for any revenue loss in the first five years of rollout of the proposed indirect tax regime.

The central government is eager to get the GST Bill approved during the Monsoon Session of Parliament ending on Aug 12.
