Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS): To address the threat of Cyber terrorism and the Economy, a daylong Seminar on “Cyber Terrorism and the Economy- A Gathering Storm” will be held in Kolkata on Jan 16.

This is being organised by CENERS-K and The Bengal Chamber as both identify this issue as a very potent and real concern.

Cyber connectivity has permeated all aspects of life and its going to grow faster than we imagined. The development of economy is dependent on cyber connectivity .

“Cyber attacks on economy are becoming a reality and with it arises the vulnerability of doing business. Terrorists are getting sophisticated and devising new ways to cripple businesses, economy and systems. The Seminar aims to bring the policy makers, industry practitioners, cyber experts, IT specialists and security experts on one platform to discuss debate and evaluate the state of preparedness of the Indian economy to fight back against the most advanced cyber attacks transcending the realm of mere information security. The Economic Summit is an annual signature event of CENERS-K and BCC&I and while the theme changes each year, Commerce & Industry remains its focus," stated Aniruddha Lahiri Vice President CENERS-K and Former President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The findings from this seminar would be sent as recommendations to the Government for consideration, he added.

“All sectors are vulnerable with regards to cyber warfare. Unlike conventional conflicts, this new type of warfare is silent yet inflicts a crippling effect on banking sectors, power sectors, government and other institutes causing system collapse and crash by attacking R & D information and data. Cyber warfare can be caused by individuals, business rivals or can be state sponsored," stated Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha (Retd.), PVSM,AVSM,VM.
