Bandhan Bank felicitates Asian Games Gold Medallist Swapna Barman
Kolkata, Nov 27 (IBNS): Bandhan Bank Ltd. celebrated the success of Swapna Barman for winning India’s maiden gold medal in the Heptathlon event of the Asian Games 2018.
Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, MD & CEO, Bandhan Bank, today, felicitated Ms. Barman and awarded her with a cheque of Rs.10 lakh for her further training requirements.
It was not an easy win for the the 22-year-old athlete who battled severe toothache during the event.
For Swapna, it was far from a fairy-tale journey. The daughter of a tea estate worker and a rickshaw puller, Swapna was born with 6 toes in each foot. She had to bear a lot of pain during training as regular shoes did not fit her properly. Yet, she trained hard to keep increasing her points in Heptathlon. In her gold winning performance, she defeated the former gold medallist and defending champion as well.
On this occasion, Ghosh said, “As Bandhan Bank, we have always focused on women empowerment. We believe in supporting dreams of people and give them opportunities to live a life that they desire. Swapna is an icon of women empowerment and an example of what the country’s daughters can achieve, if given the right support. We are contributing towards Swapna’s training with the confidence that she will continue to bring the nation many laurels at global levels.”
Speaking on the occasion, Swapna said, “For athletes, training is critical for success. As methods of training have evolved, they have become more expensive. I would like to thank Bandhan Bank for their trust in me and for investing in my training. I would continue to train hard and give my best to bring the country more medals.”
