20 red sanders smugglers killed during encounter in AP

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (IBNS) At least 20 red sandalwood smugglers were gunned down during an encounter with the special task force of the Andhra Pradesh Police at Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, reports said.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Seschalam forest area.

The encounter reportedly started after the smugglers attacked the police  with stones and axes.

“About 20 smugglers were killed in the incident which can be termed as a major breakthrough. We are combing the area to nab the remaining smugglers,” Andhra Pradesh home minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
