Pakistan bans Khatam-Ul-Ambia terror outfit

| @indiablooms | Aug 24, 2020, at 11:17 pm

Islamabad/UNI: The Pakistan government has decided to ban another militant outfit- Khatam-Ul-Ambia taking the number of outlawed organisations to 77.

Khatam-Ul-Ambia, is believed to be an offshoot of Ansarul Hussain which is said to be involved in recruiting Shia youth to fight the Islamic State (IS) group commonly known as Daesh.

Ansarul Hussain was banned in the late 2016.

Off late Pakistan has taken some steps to curb the functioning of terrorist organisations within its territory as it seeks to avoid being black listed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

On August 21, the Pakistan imposed sanctions on more than 88 terrorists associated with different terrorist groups, including Daesh, Al-Qaida, and Taliban.

Pakistan is currently in the grey list of the FATF and hopes that through these actions it could at least avoid being black listed if not be taken out of the grey list.

FATF's next review meeting is scheduled to take place in October 2020.

The FATF plenary had placed Pakistan in the grey list in June 2018, after which Pakistan committed to a 27-point action plan but failed to meet deadlines.

The last Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary session held in February continued to keep the country in the grey list saying that Pakistan is yet to meet 13 out of its 27 commitments.
