North Korea claims it successfully tested rocket engine

Seoul, Apr 9 (IBNS): North Korea on Saturday claimed the country has successfully conducted a ground test of a new engine for an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), South Korean media reports said.

The move is the latest in the series of claims made by North Korea in its progress in nuclear and missile programs.

"North Korea appears to be seeking to prove its missile capability in technical stages, as it's hard to show the actual launch of an ICBM," Yang Uk, a South Korean defense specialist, was quoted as saying by South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

Yang Uk said, "It's apparently asserting that it is capable of attacking the U.S. mainland any time if it wants."
