Tokyo: Japan PM Fumio Kishida has tested COVID-19 positive, media reports said on Sunday.

He is reportedly suffering from mild symptoms.

Kishida started experiencing symptoms such as a slight fever and cough from Saturday night, according to the PM's office, reports Kyodo.

The 65-year-old, who is now resting at his official residence, will likely carry on with his duties from Monday remotely while in isolation, as long as his symptoms do not worsen, the office said.

According to reports, Japan is currently witnessing another wave of COVID-19.

Indian PM Narendra Modi wished him speedy recovery and tweeted.

"Wishing my friend Prime Minister Fumio Kishida a speedy recovery from COVID-19. @JPN_PMO @kishida230."
