EgyptAir says wreckage from plane found near Karpathos Island

Cairo, May 19 (IBNS): The EgyptAir on Thursday announced that the wreckage of its flight, which crashed on its way from Paris to Cairo, has been found near Karpathos Island.
"EGYPTAIR resource stated that the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation has just received an official letter from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declaring the finding of wreckage of the missing aircraft No. MS 804 near Karpathos Island," EgyptAir stated in its Twitter account.
 
The EgyptAir flight having 66 people onboard disappeared from radar at 02:30 Cairo time (00:30 GMT), soon after leaving Greek airspace.  It was flying at a height of 37,000ft and disappeared after entering the Egyptian airspace with 10 miles.
 
Later in the evening French President Francois Hollande confirmed its crash.
 
The flight had 56 passengers in addition to 10 cabin crew members onboard.
 
The airlines said the flight was carrying 15 French, 30 Egyptian,1 British, 1 Belgium,2 Iraqis, 1 Kuwaiti, 1 Saudi, 1 Sudanese, 1 Chadian, 1 Portuguese, 1 Algerian, 1 Canadian national.
 
"EGYPTAIR sincerely conveys its deepest sorrow to the families and friends of the passengers onboard Flight MS804," the aircraft said in its twitter account.
 
The aircraft said that the  family members of passengers and crew have been already informed and "we extend our deepest sympathies to those affected."
 
The Egyptian Investigation Team in co-operation with the Greek counterpart are still searching for other remains of the missing plane.
