Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das breaks down emotionally as he gets 5-hour parole to attend mother’s funeral
Dhaka/IBNS: Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who has been in jail for nearly two years, was released on five-hour parole to attend his mother's funeral, media reports said.
In an emotional video circulated online, Das was seen crying and touching the feet of a Radha-Krishna idol at Pundarik Dham Temple in Chattogram before returning to jail.
His mother's last rites were performed at the temple, his brother Ranjan Kumar Dhar said, according to NDTV.
Sandhya Rani Dhar died with her wish to meet her jailed son unfulfilled after Bangladeshi authorities initially denied his family's plea seeking parole, reports said.

Who is Chinmoy Krishna Das?
Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, also known as Chandan Kumar Dhar, is a Hindu monk and former ISKCON leader who became prominent in Bangladesh as a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, an organisation advocating for Hindu minority rights.
He was arrested in Dhaka on November 25, 2024, in connection with a sedition case.
What is the main case against him?
The original case is a sedition case filed on October 31, 2024, at Chattogram's Kotwali Police Station.
Das and 18 others were accused of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag in connection with an alleged incident in which a saffron flag was reportedly placed above the national flag during a rally.
He was arrested in the case on November 25 and produced before a Chattogram court the following day. His bail plea was rejected and he was subsequently sent to jail.
What happened outside the court?
The case took a serious turn after Das appeared before the Chattogram court on November 26, 2024.
His supporters protested after his bail was denied, leading to clashes around the court premises. During the violence, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed.
A murder case was subsequently filed, and Das was later shown arrested in connection with that case as well.
Das has not been convicted in the murder case, and the proceedings are ongoing.
How many cases does he face?
According to his lawyer, Das faces six criminal cases, including the sedition case and the case relating to the death of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
The other cases reportedly involve allegations related to vandalism and obstructing police from performing their duties, among other charges.
Das has remained in custody while legal proceedings in the cases continue.
