Asia Cup: Suryakumar Yadav fined for ‘Pahalgam tribute’, Pak player Haris Rauf penalised for aggressive behaviour

The ICC has fined Indian cricket team skipper Suryakumar Yadav 30 percent of his match fee for his 'Pahalgam tribute' comment made during the Asia Cup 2025 after winning the match against Pakistan.

The incident took place on September 14 after India’s seven-wicket win in Lahore.

According to reports, Pakistan lodged an official complaint against Yadav’s remarks, terming them political. ICC match referee Richie Richardson conducted a hearing and imposed the fine, while also cautioning the Indian captain not to make politically sensitive statements for the rest of the tournament.

Sources told PTI that the BCCI has appealed the decision, and an official ICC release will soon confirm the final verdict.

Meanwhile, disciplinary action was also taken against Pakistani players following complaints from the BCCI.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 30 percent of his match fees for “rude and aggressive behaviour” during the Super 4s clash against India last Sunday, while his teammate Sahibzada Farhan escaped with just a warning despite drawing criticism for his gunshot celebration after completing a half-century.

Both Rauf and Farhan had pleaded not guilty during their ICC hearing, which was conducted in person at the Pakistan team hotel on Friday afternoon.

They were accompanied by team manager Naveed Akram Cheema.

The disciplinary row comes amid rising tensions between the two sides. India has refused to perform the traditional handshakes with Pakistan at the toss and after matches, citing solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

With the arch-rivals now set to face each other in the Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday, the atmosphere around the regional showpiece is expected to be even more charged.
