Kolkata: Governor K N Tripathi inaugurates 15th International Children's Film Festival
The six-day long film festival is jointly hosted by the UNICEF Kolkata and the Cine Central Calcutta in association with Nandan.
It was inaugurated by West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi .
The Governor said: “In our country there are very few films that are being made solely for children. Film is a very big instrument of education. I am extremely happy to know that this year these films will be screened in remote areas of West Bengal for economically backward children.”
Apart from international films, the festival will also screen short films made by children on social issues.
“Films, as a medium of edu-entertainment, can go a long way in helping to explain their rights and entitlements while offering the excitement of watching cinema that most children often carve for,” said S Dave, representative, UNICEF Kolkata.
“This year we have decided to take this festival far beyond Nandan. We will have screening of these movies in urban slum areas, remote schools in Kolkata, Purulia and Malda for those who miss out opportunities to be a part of any film festival,” he added.
The festival will have two shows open to all children’s starting from 4.30pm and 6.30pm at Nandan II.
