Wreckage of missing IAF chopper found in Arunachal Pradesh, bodies of two pilots recovered

Guwahati, July 5 (IBNS): The wreckage of the Indian Air Force chopper that went missing on Tuesday evening has been found in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district on Wednesday evening.

According to the reports, the rescue team had recovered the bodies of two pilots from a remote area of the Arunachal Pradesh’s district.

A top official of Papum Pare district said the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of IAF engaged in flood rescue drive in Arunachal Pradesh went missing at around 3-55 pm on Tuesday after it took off from Pilputu helipad near Sagalee.

Two pilots and two security personnel were also missing with the chopper.

Following the missing incident, four rescue teams of army, Indo Tibetan Border Police with State police were engaged to find out the missing chopper and finally a rescue team had managed to locate the helicopter near Chopoyoha area in Papum Pare district.

"The rescue teams were trekking through the dense forest and hill areas between Yupia and Hoj Telam in the district," the official said.

The top official said that, bodies of two pilots also recovered at the remote area.

The helicopter was evacuating people stranded in Sagalee and Dambuk due to massive landslides.

Meanwhile, Assam’s Tezpur based Defence PRO Lt Colonel Sombit Ghosh said that, the chopper had gone from its Jorhat base on Tuesday morning to engage flood rescue operations.

In last May, two pilots of the IAF were killed after a Sukhoi - 30 fighter jet crashed at a remote area along Assam - Arunachal Pradesh border.
