Delhi/IBNS: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that his government "won't let anyone die" if the national capital continues to get 700 MT of oxygen everyday.

"If we get an adequate supply of oxygen - 700 tonnes - we will be able to set up 9,000-9,500 beds in Delhi. We will be able to create oxygen beds. I assure you that we will not let anyone die due to a shortage of oxygen in Delhi," Kejriwal said at a news briefing, reported NDTV.

"Due to the oxygen crisis, hospitals had to reduce their bed capacity... I request all hospitals to now reinstate their bed capacity. I hope we will receive 700 tonnes of oxygen every day," Kejriwal said.

He said Delhi is getting half of the quantity of oxygen while BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are being prioritised.

India registered a record 4,12,262 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours and a record 3,980 related fatalities.

On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Prime Minister expressing his gratitude for supplying 730 metric tonnes (MT) oxygen to the national capital on May 5.

In a letter to the PM,  he requested for daily supply of the same amount of oxygen to Delhi.

''Delhi requires 700 metric tonnes of oxygen per day. We were constantly requesting the Central Government to give so much oxygen to us. For the first time yesterday, Delhi has received 730 metric tonnes of oxygen,'' he said.

''I express my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the people of Delhi. You are requested that at least such amount of oxygen to Delhi is provided every day and no deduction should be made in it. The entire Delhi will be grateful to you for this,'' the Chief Minister said in his letter.
