Will reopen Manipur fake encounter file : CBI

| | Jan 27, 2016, at 06:21 pm
New Delhi Jan 27 (IBNS) Taking note of the confession of a Manipur policeman that he shot dead a PLA activist in a fake encounter, the Central Bureau of Investigation has said the case will be reopened if the statement is found to be true, media reports said.

Referring to the interview of Herojit Singh on CNN-IBN, wherein he confessed to have killed an unarmed former PLA terrorist Sanjit Meitei in 2009, the agency termed the report as shocking. They said probe teams would check the authenticity and decide on the next course of action.

In an  interview to CNN-IBN, the head constable, Herojit Singh, made the confessions on killing an unarmed Meitei in 2009.

According to Singh, he pumped bullets into the former PLA militant acting on orders from his senior, the then Additional Superintendent of Police in Imphal. He said that he shot at Meitei with a 9mm pistol on chest.

Singh also claimed that the Manipur DGP and Chief Minister were in the know, adding that now he fears for his life.

Reacting to the confessions of Singh, Meitei's mother demanded that either the government must ensure justice for her, or Singh should be handed over to her so that she can avenge the murder of her son.
