Will change the face of Amethi: Modi

Amethi, May 5 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Monday said he would change the face of Amethi, the bastion of the rival Gandhi family, if elected to power.

Addressing a gathering at Amerthi in Uttar Pradesh canvassing for BJP candidate Smriti Irani, Modi tore apart the Gandhis and said: "In the coming 60 months I will change Amethi so much that in the coming days universities from the world will come here for case studies."

"Amethi will show the way for development. Now you have to choose and vote. I am here not for politics of revenge but politics of change," said Modi who claimed that the Gandhi family has not done any development in Amethi and even basic toilet facilities are absent.

"The government of Mother and Son is going to end," he said referring to Congress president and vice-president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. "They cannot save Congress now anymore," he said.

"Send lotus from Amethi and build a strong government at the centre," said Modi.

My full faith is in my younger sister Smriti Irani, he said praising the TV actor turned politician pitted against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

"Congress is asking who is Smriti Irani? Well you have no right to ask that. She is my sister who has come to do good here," said Modi.

"Sonia Gandhi says I am behaving that I have already become the PM. What do I say? I know her concerns as mother for his son for whom she spent ten years in preparations. I would rather say: Soniaji, apke muh me ghee shakkar," he said.

"They cannot digest that a tea seller will rise so high. Is it crime to be born poor? Are you ignoring me because I have not come from your world," asked Modi.

He said he would bring water to Amethi and the state government would be bound to help him.

Modi attacked the Gandhi family saying that they would ignore him once and not take his name but now they chant his name only.

He said the Gandhis are following the politics of anger and even Rahul Gandhi's father Rajiv Gandhi did it. He also attacked Sonia Gandhi saying she had removed former Congress president Sitaram Kesri because he had hailed from backward background.

Modi even accused Sonia Gandhi of denying a little land to cremate former Congress prime minister P V Narasimha Rao in New Delhi like the British had denied Bahadur Shah Zafar.

Modi said Amethi has to sever their ties with the Gandhis who never cared for their employment.

"Give a chance to a sevak [servant]. I am here not to loot. I have come here to seek from you," he said.

Amethi, a bastion of the Gandhi family, this time witnessed a lot of attention with BJP fielding Smirit Irani and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fielding Kumar Vishwas.

Rahul Gandhi also held a roadshow in Amethi a day ago while sister Priyanka Gandhi is also aggressively campaigning for her brother.

Congress leaders said the campaigning by Modi will have no effect on their fortunes in Amethi.
