Who will be Bengal CM if BJP wins? Amit Shah breaks silence
Kolkata/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not project a Chief Ministerial face against incumbent Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming West Bengal elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah cleared on Friday.
What did he say?
“We are not a dynasty party, so any Bengali who is a resident of the state can be our Chief Minister,” Shah said.
“No one should worry. I assure all of you that our Chief Minister will be competent, eligible and a leader who will establish good governance,” he added.
UCC, cash aid among key promises
Shah also announced that religion-based personal laws would be scrapped and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in West Bengal if the BJP forms the government.
Other major promises include ₹3,000 monthly financial assistance for women and youth.
The proposed aid is being seen as a counter to the Trinamool Congress’ welfare schemes such as Lakshmir Bhandar for women and Yuva Sathi for youth, which have played a significant role in the ruling party's growing popularity.
Notably, the BJP’s promised amount is double the benefits offered under these schemes.
Other key promises in BJP manifesto
- Payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to all government employees
- Implementation of the 7th Pay Commission within 45 days of forming the government
- Recruitment to fill vacant government posts
- Five-year relaxation for candidates who lost job opportunities due to recruitment scams
- Implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme
- Development of a business park in Singur
- Eviction of illegal immigrants
