West Bengal: Speeding truck kill 5 on Basanti Highway

Kolkata/South 24 Parganas, Feb 28 (IBNS): A fatal truck accident on Saturday night killed at least 5 persons and left 3 others injured at Paglahat Bazar area near Bhangar in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, reports said.

According to reports, an over-speeding truck, which was going to South 24 Parganas from Kolkata, suddenly lost its control on Basanti Highway at around 9 pm and run over as many as 8 people.

Five of them- Sadek Mollah, Niranjan Ghosh, Rafique Mollah, Wahed Ali Mollah and Dulal Mondal- died on the spot and remainig three- Bhagabati Mondal, Satya Mondal and Dilip Ghosh- were injured in the accident and are being treated in critical condition at National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

However, police arrested the accused truck driver- Raju- on Sunday and seized the killer truck.
