West Bengal on second day of biweekly anti-Covid-19 lockdown today
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal, the eastern state of India, is on Saturday witnessing the second day of a biweekly lockdown called by its government to stem the spread of Novel Coronavirus.
The state government has announced lockdowns on any two days of a week.
Earlier this week, the state was under strict lockdown on Thursday.
Quite contrary to the pictures seen during the national lockdown, roads were deserted with very little footfalls as police were seen patrolling to enforce the restrictions.
As per requests by the West Bengal government, no flight to and from the state is available and several trains have also been cancelled for the day.
West Bengal on Friday reported new 2,216 Covid cases taking the overall tally to 53,973.
With the reports of 35 fatalities on Friday, the Covid toll surged to 1,290.
However the recovery rate further increased to 62.12% as 1,873 Covid patients were discharged in the last 24 hours.
The state government has already announced lockdown on Jul 29 while the second date in the next week is yet to be declared.
