West Bengal: BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh injured during law violation

Kolkata, Dec 17 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Siddharth Nath Singh was injured in a clash with police on Thursday during a law violation programme at Barasat in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas districts, reports said.
Protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation, misrule as well as violence against women in the state, the BJP held a law violation programme at Barasat under the leadership of Siddharth Nath Singh.

When protesters were trying to break police-barricades, they engaged in a scuffle with the police force. Police restored to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh was allegedly injured in lathicharge and rushed to a local hospital.

Few protesters and at least 10 policemen were injured during the scuffle at Barasat here, reports said.

Meanwhile, a huge number of BJP supporters, in the presence of BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya and BJP's state president Dilip Ghosh, held a law violation programme on the same issue at Krishnanagar in Nadia district of West Bengal on Thursday.

Police and BJP supporters engaged in a scuffle with each other there and few protesters were injured when police allegedly lathicharged them.

Few policemen were also reportedly injured in the clash and few protesters, who took part in the law violation there, were arrested.

Demanding their immediate release, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Dilip Ghosh submitted a memorandum to the police.

"We have issued an ultimatum to the police to release our party-workers before 9:15 pm. If police don't release them by 9:15 pm., we will sit in an indefinite hunger strike in front of Krishnanagar Kotwali Police Station," BJP's state president Dilip Ghosh told IBNS.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday held law violation programme at several locations across West Bengal where few policemen and protesters were injured.

However, to protest against the police action, the BJP has called for road blockade at several locations across the state on Friday from 2:00 to 2:30 pm.
