West Bengal: 6 held in Burdwan for travelling in a car with fake MoD number plate
Kolkata/Burdwan, Feb 8 (IBNS): Six suspects were arrested on Monday morning for allegedly using a car with fake Ministry of Defence (MoD) number plate at Jamalpur area in West Bengal's Burdwan district, police said.
According to reports, six men were travelling to Durgapur from Kolkata in a white Swift Dzire car, having a commercial number plate (WB 04G 1137) and a red metallic plate where it was written- Government of India, Ministry of Defence, O. F. B. (Ordnance Factories Board), Kolkata.
Police stopped the car at a check point on National Highway 2 near Jamalpur area and asked the passengers to show their identity proofs. The six passengers could not provide MoD's identity card and all were immediately detained.
"The Swift Dzire car, has MoD's number plate, was stopped for security check. Six passengers of the car could not provide identity cards related to Ministry of Defence and we have arrested them immediately. They have been identified as Sakir Ahmed, Salim Akhter, Sk. Irfan, Sk. Ansaruddin, Abdul Akhter and Sk. Shahruk. They all are the residents of Kolkata's Tiljala area," one senior official of Burdwan district police told IBNS.
"The car has been seized. We are interrogating them to know why they were using the car with fake MoD's number plate. One of the six arrested might has past criminal records, we are also checking it. According to the transport department, the car (WB 04G 1137) has been registered in Kolkata and name of its owner is Abdul Kadeer Naoaz Khan," the officer said.
However, the six suspects will be produced in a local court in Burdwan on Monday.
Meanwhile, one senior MoD official told IBNS, "We have not been informed officially yet. We got this news from the media and have directed the Eastern Command, which is headquartered in Kolkata's Fort William, to keep watch on the matter."
