'We will thwart conspiracies hatched by Centre': Revanth Reddy on delimitation exercise

Hyderabad/IBNS: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Thursday said the delimitation exercise, which is scheduled to take place before the 2029 general election, is meant to limit South India and reduce its importance.

He said an action plan is being prepared to counter it.

Reddy, who received Tamil Nadu's invitation to participate in an all-party meeting on the matter on March 22, said since the BJP does not have much representation from the southern states, it "wants to take revenge on these states".

"We will thwart the conspiracies hatched by the BJP-led Central government against the southern states," he was quoted in media reports.

Reddy assured to extend full support to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, who is playing a key role in the issue of delimitation.

MK Stalin calls for united opposition against delimitation:

Last week, Stalin reached out to seven of his counterparts, including Bengal's Mamata Banerjee, Punjab's Bhagwant Mann, and BJP-ruled Odisha's Mohan Chandra Majhi, to join a 'joint action committee' of political parties to voice against the delimitation exercise proposed by the Centre.

He has also asked Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka's Siddaramaiah, Telangana's Revanth Reddy, Andhra Pradesh's Chandrababu Naidu, as well as senior politicians from non-ruling parties and the BJP in each of these states, to attend a meeting in Chennai on March 22 "to chart a collective course".

"Delimitation is a blatant assault on federalism, punishing states that ensured population control by stripping away our rightful voice in Parliament. We will not allow this democratic injustice!" he said on X.

Ahead of an election in Tamil Nadu next year, Stalin and his government have been vociferously protesting against the Centre's 'Hindi imposition' and delimitation.

He has argued that none of the moves are necessary and would rather lead to an attack on the federal nature of the Constitution and the Tamil people.
