WB: TMC leader killed in West Midnapore, FIR lodged against Cong leader Manas Bhunia
Kolkata/West Midnapore, Apr 9 (IBNS): Two days prior to the West Bengal assembly election's second round polling, a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was beaten to death on Friday midnight at Moupukur area under Sabang Police Station limits in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, reports said.
According to reports, when TMC's Dubrajpur booth president Jaydeb Jana was returning home, few miscreants beat him badly by sticks and iron rods. The TMC leader died on spot.
The ruling TMC alleged that CPI-M and Congress activists killed Jaydeb Jana and Congress candidate in Sabang constituency Manas Bhunia planned the operation.
TMC's Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said, "CPI-M and Congress jointly killed our companion Jaydeb Jana in Sabang. This incident is just a outcome of CPI-M leaders Md. Salim and Surya Kanta Mishra's threats. Congress leader Manas Bhunia should be arrested for his involvement in this murder. I'm going to Sabang now and we will definitely submit complaint before Election Commission."
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee reacted on this incident through micro-blogging site Twitter posting.
"Election Commission must take appropriate action immediately. This is a result of Md Salim's revenge remark. An innocent person lost his life," she tweeted.
Meanwhile, CPI-M and Congress denied their involvements in the matter.
However, an FIR has been lodged under several IPC and CrPC sections in Sabang Police Station against 22 persons, including Manas Bhunia.
Police have started investigation into the matter and detained at least eight suspects so far.
