WB: Girls raped in Govt home, 1 held
Kolkata, Jan 12 (IBNS): A middle-aged man has been arrested for allegedly raping two minor girls in a government-run shelter home for women- Shahid Bandana Smriti Mahila Abas- at Baburhat area Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, reports said.
Five days after the accused was booked, the news came out publicly on Tuesday.
According to reports, Kachua Miah, a Group-D staff of Shahid Bandana Smriti Mahila Abas, had regularly raped two minor girls, who are the residents of the home, for last three-four months.
When one of them, a 12-year-old girl became pregnant few days ago, the accused was suspended and the home authority lodged a complaint at Kotwali Police Station.
After starting investigation into the case, police on Jan 7 arrested the accused- Kachua Miah- from Sitalkuchi area in Cooch Behar district and he is in judicial custody.
Cooch Behar SP Sunil Yadav told IBNS, "We received a complaint and have started investigation into the matter. Main accused has been arrested already."
However, WB minister of state for Children & Women Welfare told IBNS, "I heard about the incident and have asked for details. Investigation has been started."
However, the super of the government-run shelter, where 85 residents stay, has been issued show-cause notice. The victim girl, who becomes pregnant, is being treated in Cooch Behar MJN Hospital.
"Two minor girls were taken to this hospital. Both were raped. One of them becomes pregnant," one doctor of MJN hospital told IBNS.
Cooch Behar district magistrate P. Ulaganathan told IBNS, "West Bengal Child Welfare Committee are probing the entire matter. Won't say further now."
