Vadodara: Modi's opponent booked for ripping posters

Vadodara, Apr 3 (IBNS): Congress candidate from Vadodara Madhusudan Mistry was on Thursday granted bail shortly after he was arrested for ripping down posters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Mistry is contesting against Modi from the Vadodara seat in Gujarat.

The Congress leader was filmed while he was trying to replace Modi's advertisements with his own, with help of his supporters.

After reviewing the footage, the local police filed a case of vandalism against Mistry.

He has been booked for damage to public property.

With the city adorned with Modi's advertisements kiosks, hoardings and billboards, Mistry, after being named as the former's challenger from Vadodara, reportedly demanded an equal share in the space allocated for putting up election-related posters.

The municipal corporation, however, refused him stating that those locations have already been allotted to the BJP.

Modi is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Vadodara seat in Gujarat and Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
