Bahraich: A 24-year-old woman was beaten to death by her husband in an inebriated state over a petty issue in the Baundi area of Bahraich district here in Uttar Pradesh, police said here on Friday.

In-charge of Baundi police station Gannath Prasad said that Dinesh Kumar Lohar (35) lived with his wife Sangita, a resident of Bihar, in Kodahi village.

"Late on Thursday night, Dinesh reached home with his friends and asked Sangita, but citing late hours, she refused," they said.

He said that, irked by this, Dinesh locked Sangita in a room and thrashed her brutally.

"During this, Dinesh hit Sangita's head with the handpump, seriously injuring her.''

"Some villagers informed Dial 112, after which the police reached the spot and took Sangita to the community health centre, where doctors declared her dead," he said.

Prasad said that Dinesh has been detained and is being questioned.

"The accused committed the crime in an inebriated state. Dinesh's first wife had died, and Sangita was his second wife, whom he brought from Bihar a year ago," he said.
