At least two people died after a fire broke out at a residential building in Noida, trapping around 50 people inside, media reports said on Wednesday.

According to preliminary information, the blaze erupted in Mamura village, under the jurisdiction of the Phase 3 police station, after a spark from an electric bike, NDTV reported.

Fire department officials rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control.

They also rescued several families who were trapped inside the building.

Rajeev Narain, Joint Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar, told NDTV that the fire was likely triggered while an electric vehicle was being charged.

The blaze subsequently spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles.

Further details are awaited.
