Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu compares GST with 1991 economic reforms

New Delhi, Jul 7 (IBNS): Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu interacted with the media on GST, in New Delhi, on Friday.

"I compliment traders, industry and all stakeholders for rising to the occasion and embracing  One Nation OneTax, enabling a smooth transition," said Naidu.

He said, "I appeal to all to join hands in taking forward GST in direction of benefiting people and economy instead of spreading misleading statements."

The Union Minister said that some section of the Opposition, including the Congress Party are 'blindly opposing' GST.

He said, on one hand Congress leaders claim that they brought GST and on another hand they oppose it and says it is imperfect which shows their double standards, according to media reports.

"GST has been embraced by all states and stakeholders. Opposition instead of criticising must have been a part of constructive deliberations," he said.

Naidu said that GST was a major economic reform similar to that undertaken in 1991.
