Union Minister and BJP leader V Muraleedharan's car attacked in Bengal

The junior minister of External Affairs Ministry got its car attacked in Paschim Medinipur.

The BJP has alleged its leader was attacked by "goons" of the ruling Trinamool Congress, which has returned to power with a resounding victory.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday rushed a four-member probe committee to West Bengal to assess the ground realities amid the post-poll violence, a source in the government said here.

Though the names of the team members, headed by an Additional Secretary level officer, have not been disclosed, it is likely to probe the actions taken by the state government and reasons for the continuation of violence, the source added.

Taking a strong view on the post-poll violence in the state, the Union Home Ministry on May 5 shot a reminder letter to the Chief Secretary of the State, asking him to submit a detailed report on these incidents, also warning them that “matter will be taken seriously” if it fails to do so.

The MHA reminder letter also asked the State to take necessary steps to stop such incidents ‘without any loss of time’.

Violent incidents were reported a day after the ruling party Trinamool Congress got a landslide victory in the assembly election which led to alleged attacks on the BJP workers.

As per the latest inputs, the violence has not stopped and this means that effective measures were not taken by the State administration to control it, an MHA communique on Wednesday said.
