Trends: NDA crosses magic figure, Modi set to be PM

New Delhi, May 16 (IBNS): As counting of votes progressed on Friday, trends showed the BJP-led NDA garnering magic figure of 272 and crossing it further with a government in New Delhi under Narendra Modi now almost a reality.

As per the trends at 10 am, the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) is ahead in 286 seats while the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) is ahead in 76.

Trends thus show NDA would form a government under Modi without any help of other powers. BJP is ahead in 54 seats in Uttar Pradesh, showing its best ever result almost.

BJP is also leading in all seven seats in the national capital with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this time failing to make any impact.

BJP alone is ahead in 249 seats while Congress is hovering around 59. NDA is doing even better than predicted in some exit polls so far.

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is ahead in both Varanasi and Vadodara seats from where he contested.

The impact of a Modi wave was so much so that even Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was seen trailing in Amethi where BJP pitted Smriti Irani against the Gandhi scion.

However, later Rahul Gandhi was seen leading in Amethi by 19720 votes.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is, however, leading in Rae Bareli seat.

The Modi wave even had its impact in a state like West Bengal with party candidates like Babul Supriyo on the course of winning and in some others their candidates doing well.

In Gandhinagar in Gujarat, BJP patriarch L K Advani is ahead.

Bollywood actor Hema Malini is leading in Mathura seat.

In Darjeeling, West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress candidate and former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia is trailing behind BJP candidate S S Ahluwalia.
