Kolkata/IBNS: A nationwide bandh (strike) called by 10 central trade unions in protest against the union government's policies partially affected the transport, banking services on Thursday.

The various trade unions, which are led by Left and also Congress, have called the bandh on the issues including economic policies, farm laws.

In West Bengal, which was once a Left bastion, Congress has supported the bandh.

People in Kolkata were seen getting harassed by the fewer number of buses and the halting of train services.

One of the daily commuters told a local news channel, "There is no meaning of lockdown after months of lockdown."

Left Front chairman Biman Bose, who had participated in a rally here, said, "The bandh is overall successful barring a few incidents."

The demands include cash transfer of Rs. 7,500 to all non-income tax paying families and 10 kg free ration per person every month to poor families.
