CM Vijay's metro ride sparks frenzy as fans crowd Chennai stations

Vijay began his journey from Omandurar Metro station in the afternoon and travelled to Nandanam, accompanied by senior Metro officials.

Vijay buys his own ticket

In a gesture that caught the attention of commuters, Vijay stood in line at the ticket counter and purchased his own Metro ticket instead of using a special arrangement.

Escorted by his security personnel and officials, he walked through the station, tapped his token at the automatic fare gate, and boarded the train.

As he made his way through the station, supporters lined the corridors and staircases, cheering, applauding and waving as he acknowledged them with smiles and waves.

Warm interactions with commuters

During the journey, Vijay interacted with several passengers on board.

A woman greeted him with a respectful bow, to which the Chief Minister responded warmly by holding her hands and exchanging a few words.

He also spoke briefly with a young boy and chatted with a group of women commuters seated nearby, many of whom captured the moment on their phones.

The interactions added to the excitement among passengers, with videos and photographs of the visit quickly circulating on social media.

Visit to Metro control centre

After completing the ride, Vijay visited the Chennai Metro control room, where officials briefed him on the network's operations.

He reviewed live CCTV feeds, digital transit maps and real-time monitoring systems displayed on the control room's large video walls as part of the inspection.
