TMC will be the third largest party: Derek

| | May 12, 2014, at 03:34 pm
Kolkata, May 12 (IBNS) Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien on Monday said his party will emerge as the third largest party in the 2014 Lok Sabha.

"In all humility, we will do very well in Bengal and we are reasonably, quietly confident that TMC will be the third largest party in the Lok Sabha," said Derek after casting his vote.

"Today we believe that on the 16th (May), when the results come out, it will be a referendum in Bengal on the good development work that we have done," he said.

"It's a carnival atmosphere in West Bengal. People are voting peacefully, fearlessly and in very good spirits," he added.

Derek was one of the early voters in Kolkata (Kolkata South) and he also took a potshot at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi after voting as he tweeted: "Yes,I just voted...No, I did not then come outside the booth and take a selfie :)".

In West Bengal, polling is being held on Monday in 17 seats, including South and North Kolkata seats. Fates of 188 candidates will be sealed in the state by voters in the final phase of the polling.

TMC leaders like Dinesh Twivedi and Sougata Roy are also contesting in this phase.
