Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis has condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack during his telephonic conversation with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

He also asked the Indian Minister to restrain any escalation of regional tension.

"In a conversation with my Indian colleague @DrSJaishankar following the tragic attack in #Pahalgam, I reiterated #Switzerland’s condemnation, expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and called for restraint to avoid regional escalation," the Minister wrote on X.

The Minister made the remark amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.

He said his nation is ready to support dialogue.

Pahalgam Attack

Twenty-six people, including 23 Hindu male tourists, were killed by terrorists in Baisaran meadows, a popular destination in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, on April 22.

The terrorists- belonging to The Resistance Front (TRF), which is an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)- asked the victims to chant Islamic verses (kalma) and made them pull down their pants to be sure of their their non-Muslim religious identities (read circumcision)  before gunning them down before their families, including wives, children and daughters.

Ceasefire

Following the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan has been provoking India with regular ceasefire violations along the Line of Control.
