Slum demolition: AAP, TMC join hands to protest against central government

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS) In an alleged anti-encroachment drive by the Railway Police which saw the demolition of almost 500 shanties in West Delhi's Shakur Basti on Sunday, the Centre has evoked the wrath of the opposition yet again as the AAP and the TMC joined hands to launch a protest against the move on Monday.

Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had visited the demolished area, where allegedly a child had died during the process, said, "This is highly condemnable. God will not forgive them. They (officers involved) should be booked for murder."

Conforming their involvement toward the protest, TMC leader Derek O'Brian posted on Twitter: "Trinamool gives notice in RS to bring up #ShakurBasti demolition in #parliament Will also join @AamAadmiParty outside Parliament at 10.30."

Kejriwal, who had condemned the incident, has sought a meeting with the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.

The Delhi CM  tweeted: "Sought an appointment with Railway Minister, Sh Suresh Prabhu ji."

The Aam Aadmi Party also handed over a notice in the Parliament over the incident, according to media reports.

Congress vice -president Rahul Gandhi said both the central and the Delhi government are to be blamed for the incident.

Rahul Gandhi posted on his official Twitter handle, "Modi sarkar and Kejriwal sarkar are responsible for what has happened here. #ShakurBasti. "

He said, "Instead they should provide help to the people who have been displaced & rehabilitate them."

In his rebuttal, Kejriwal said, "Rahul is still a kid and maybe no one from his party has informed him that the Railway belongs to the central government and not the state."
