Shyam Agarwal takes over as new Secretary Tribal Affairs

New Delhi, Feb 1 (IBNS) Shyam S Agarwal has taken over as new Secretary of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, officials said on Monday.

"A science graduate from Ravenshaw College (Utkal University) Shri Agarwal did his MA in Political Science and Economics. He also did MBA from University of Ljublijana, Slovania," read a government statement.


A Ph.D. in Economics from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA, Agarwal served in the Ministries of Commerce and Industry, MSME, Social Justice and Empowerment and Home Affairs in various capacities.

Agarwal was Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes before taking over the present assignment.

He succeeds Arun Jha.
